The Art is in the Details:
Many times I have an exact idea of what I want in my head before I even make something.
It is a blessing and a curse.
I. It makes it easier to sort through the noise and find what I am looking for II. I am more likely to be disappointed if I do not find what I want.
Hence, now that I have revealed that to you, you can see how I quickly became enamored with making jewelry.
The fear of option II is what pushes me every day to find what I need—to go and get whatever it is I desire.
Art is the baby of decision making or the lack thereof. It is a representation of ideas and ideals. Of beauty and desire for something transcendental; an experience. A love affair with the beautiful—the opportunity to make something that will stop time and make us dream about the future.
I am not just making jewelry. I am making art from the heart inspired by people, by my keen eye for detail and the passion and the fierceness which lives in me to pursue that which is unexpected of a young woman who just graduated from college.
I prefer that which talks directly to me. And that which I feel closest to. There is no item more intimate to the self than jewelry—the soul of a piece is an affair between the maker and the wearer.
It represents the grounding force of the things we value and what we want the world to know about us.
The little detail, the art. Making and destroying, however, you want to put it.
Diamonds are not impressive because of their price tag, but because they are created under extreme pressure, making them the hardest material on earth. I can wear them every day and be confident they will not break with the smallest impact. Maybe diamonds remind me of myself.
I know how much my jewelry means to me and to those who so elegantly bring life to the pieces I’ve so carefully dreamt and made.
With jewelry, there is intentionality and the mark of the human hand--even the slightest variation in detail is exciting in a sterile world. Without it, life would be boring.
I guess this would be the time to disclose my next collection:
Rings featuring solitaire diamonds in every color of the rainbow—because yes, diamonds come in all colors.
